Purpose

To create an understanding of the developmental and behavioural dynamics of adolescence and to develop effective pastoral care practice.

The family and the adolescent
Biblical principles of adolescent pastoral care
Pastoral care of adolescents in youth ministry
The process of helping adolescents
Dealing with common adolescent issues

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course students will be able to:

i.    Identify significant developmental changes that take place in adolescence.
ii.    Analyze the behavioural characteristics of adolescents with reference to external and internal issues.
iii.    Design a pastoral care strategy for youth ministry that meets a range of needs.
iv.    Demonstrate basic skills in providing individual pastoral care.

Teaching Methods

The course will utilize a variety of teaching styles and methods which would include video presentations, discussions, group work, case studies, role play and analytical/reflective exercises using Scripture and articles/reports.

Length of Course: 4 months (offered over 12 sessions. One 3hr-session per week (36 hours in total) Alternating Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
