Student Iconographer Commissioned for Trinity College Chapel

Orthodox MTS student, Kirollos Kilada, has been commissioned to paint some icons for the chapel at Trinity College. Funding for the new icons was provided by the 2020-21 divinity students.

Kiro is an artist and illustrator, who completed a degree in illustration at OCAD in May 2020 and began his MTS studies at Trinity this year. He works in a variety of techniques both old and contemporary in order to create work that finds meaning in mystery and chaos.

As an iconographer, Kiro spends a lot of time studying the centuries old Coptic tradition, endeavouring to produce icons that are both authentic and speak to the contemporary viewer with a freshness of Spirit. He says his role as an iconographer is to make an image that invites people to prayer and suggests to them the beauty, goodness and truth of their Creator. His icons have been commissioned for churches and private collections in both the United States and Canada.

We are looking forward to this project coming to fruition!
